Fridges, freezers and A/C units hold refrigerant that has to be recovered before the metal is scrapped, and the county landfills charge an extra handling fee for every appliance. Both are built into the price above.
Appliances and the City Programs
City of Riverside
Excludes refrigerators, freezers and A/C units from bulky pickup altogether.
Ontario
Takes appliances curbside for single-family homes, within four appointments a year. If you’re eligible and can wait, that’s a fine option.
Moreno Valley
Allows e-waste in its monthly pickups, but not anything too heavy for one person to lift safely — a full-size fridge can fail that test.
Anywhere Else
Garage fridges, laundry-room pairs and dead water heaters come out with us on the day you pick.

Appliance Removal FAQs
How much does it cost to haul away a refrigerator?
Standard fridges run $164; side-by-side and French-door models are $183, and the refrigerant work is part of both.
Will the City of Riverside collect my old fridge?
No. Refrigerators, freezers and A/C units are excluded from the City’s bulky-item program. We take them.
Do I have to disconnect the appliance?
Unplug and empty it. Gas ranges and hard-wired water heaters should be disconnected by a qualified technician before the crew arrives; we carry, we don’t re-plumb.
Can you take a washer and dryer together?
Yes — washer $133, dryer $128, one trip.
Do you remove old A/C condensers?
Yes. An outdoor condenser or heat pump is $115 and a large window unit $109, with the refrigerant recovered.
What about a garage chest freezer?
A chest freezer is $146. Empty it first; defrosting isn’t required.
