From Steel Town to 214,169 People
Fontana grew on citrus, vineyards and Route 66 along Foothill Boulevard. In World War II Henry J. Kaiser built one of only two steel mills west of the Mississippi here, along with the first Kaiser Permanente facility.
Annexations in 2006–07 and the north Fontana tracts pushed the population to 214,169. The median home was built in 1989.
