The short answer

Pick a hauler who will give you a fixed price before the truck arrives, is insured and can send a certificate of insurance if your building or HOA asks, carries items out rather than only loading from the curb, and can tell you where your junk goes. Use published prices as a benchmark: with JunkRabbit a sofa is $126, a fridge $164 and a quarter truck $241, with no stairs fee.

1. Will you give me the price before you come?

The best answer is a specific number, in writing, from photos or an item list. "We'll see when we get there" means the price is set in your driveway, when you have the least leverage.

Ask what happens if the job turns out different from the photos. A fair answer is that the price only changes if you approve the change, like adding items. Ask too whether the quote is per item or by truck space, because a garage in Eastvale and a single fridge in Arlington should not be priced the same way.

2. Are you insured, and can you send a COI?

A crew carrying a sleeper sofa down a staircase in Corona or past original woodwork in a Wood Streets bungalow can damage things. Insurance is what pays for that. Ask whether the hauler is insured and whether they can provide a certificate of insurance. Condo associations, managed complexes and some HOAs require one before a crew can work on site.

JunkRabbit works with vetted, insured local haulers and emails a COI for buildings within 1 hour.

3. Do you carry it out, or do I bring it to the curb?

Some services price only curbside or driveway pickup. That can be fine for a single box. For a sofa upstairs, a washer in the laundry room or a garage full of stuff, the carrying is the job. Ask directly, and ask whether stairs or a long walk cost extra. On a Norco or Woodcrest horse property, the walk from the barn to the truck can be most of the job.

4. Where does it go?

In the Riverside area the answer should name real places: Riverside County's Badlands, Lamb Canyon or El Sobrante landfills, a recycler, a clean-green lane for yard waste, or a donation drop-off. California Penal Code §374.3 sets illegal-dumping fines of $250 to $1,000 for a first conviction, and one cubic yard or more is treated as commercial quantities, a misdemeanor. If your furniture ends up on a roadside in Mead Valley, the investigation can lead back to you.

5 to 8. Quick checks

  • 5. Do you cover your loads? Riverside County charges a $25 surcharge on uncovered loads, and San Bernardino County doubles the disposal fee for uncovered or unsecured loads. A hauler who tarps is a hauler who follows the rules.
  • 6. Is disposal included? Appliances, mattresses and tires all have special handling at county gates. A full price includes disposal; a partial one adds it later.
  • 7. Do you charge extra for stairs, same-day or weekends? Get a yes or no.
  • 8. How do I pay, and do I get a receipt? Cash-only with no receipt is a red flag.

Comparing two quotes on the same job

Quotes only compare when they describe the same work. Take a Menifee garage with a washer, a dryer, a sofa and a corner pile of boxes. Write the job down once and send the same photos to everyone. Then line the answers up:

  • Is the total fixed? A range, or a price that depends on weight at the dump, is not fixed.
  • Does it include carrying from the garage? Or does it assume everything is in the driveway?
  • Is appliance disposal included? County gates add $7 per appliance.
  • When can they come? A lower number three days later may not help if the house closes tomorrow.

JunkRabbit's number for that example by item is $133 + $128 + $126 = $387 for the appliances and sofa; once the boxes are added, the photo quote may come back as a truck-share tier, such as $431 for a half truck, instead. Either way the number is fixed before booking.

Red flags specific to the IE

  • A cash price from a truck at a big-box store parking lot, with no business name.
  • "I'll take it for free" offers for appliances, from people who only want the metal and leave the rest.
  • No answer on where it goes. Cheap disposal in Riverside County means there is no good reason to dump.
  • Vague coverage. The service area is huge, from Chino Hills to Banning to Temecula. A hauler who says yes to everything and then shows up a day late is not saving you anything.
  • No plan for gates. In Canyon Lake, Dos Lagos or a gated Temecula tract, a hauler who has not asked how to get in is likely to be late.

Frequently asked questions

What should I ask a junk removal company in Riverside?

Whether the price is fixed before arrival, whether they are insured and can send a COI, whether they carry items out, whether disposal is included, and where your junk will go. Ask about stairs and same-day charges too. Get the answers in writing.

Why does it matter where my junk goes?

Illegal dumping is a crime under California Penal Code §374.3, with fines starting at $250. Dumped items can be traced back to the address they came from. Loads of a cubic yard or more are treated as commercial quantities.

Do I need a hauler with a COI?

If your condo association, apartment building or HOA asks for one, yes. JunkRabbit emails a COI within 1 hour. Ask your manager for the requirements before booking.

Are cheap cash haulers worth it?

Only if they give you a fixed price, carry insurance and can tell you where the load goes. Without those, the savings can turn into risk. A receipt matters if anything goes wrong.

What does a sofa pickup cost in Riverside?

$126 for a standard sofa with JunkRabbit, carried out from any floor with disposal included. A loveseat is $119. Both together are $126 + $119 = $245.
