The short answer
Garage cleanouts are priced by how much of the truck they fill: $241 for a quarter truck (about 4 cubic yards), $431 for half, $587 for three-quarters and $732 for a full 16-cubic-yard truck. Big single items like a garage fridge or a treadmill can be added at their flat prices. Everything is loaded straight from the garage, so nothing sits on the driveway or the curb.
Why IE garages fill up
Inland Empire homes are built on slabs. There is no basement, and 69% of the metro's housing is single-family detached. So the two- or three-car garage becomes the storage room, the workshop, the gym and the overflow from every move.
Two kinds of garage dominate:
- Older cores: Riverside (median home built 1976), San Bernardino (1973), Redlands, Norco, Jurupa Valley, Ontario. Detached or single garages full of decades of tools, holiday decorations and furniture nobody wanted to throw away.
- The 2000s tract belt: Eastvale and French Valley (median built 2007), Beaumont (2006), Menifee (2001), Murrieta and Perris (2000). A generation of first-owner garages, now full of moving boxes, outgrown kids' gear and "the stuff from the last house".
Many of those tract owners arrived from Orange and Los Angeles counties, so the boxes in the third bay are often still labeled from that move.
Common add-ons, priced flat
Some garage items are heavy or specialized enough to price on their own, either on top of a truck share or as their own job.
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Tires (set of 4) | $87 |
| Rolling Tool Chest / Workbench | $100 |
| Treadmill | $115 |
| Water Heater (Tank) | $131 |
| Freezer (Chest) | $146 |
| Riding Mower / Lawn Tractor | $152 |
| Refrigerator (Standard) | $164 |
| Home Gym / Multi-Station | $241 |
Example: a half-truck garage plus the old garage fridge, $431 + $164 = $595. A quarter-truck clear-out plus a home gym from a converted bay in Corona, $241 + $241 = $482.
Three IE garages, priced
Eastvale three-car tract garage (built around 2007): one bay of moving boxes, a bunk bed, a trampoline and two bikes. By item, the bigger pieces are $123 + $116 + $37 + $37 = $313; with the boxes, the whole bay is closer to a three-eighths truck at $338, so the photo quote will usually come back as the tier.
Jurupa Valley detached garage on a large lot: decades of tools, scrap lumber, old tires and a chest freezer. Three-quarters of a truck plus the freezer: $587 + $146 = $733.
Menifee two-car garage before a sale: a light half-truck of boxes and furniture plus a treadmill: $431 + $115 = $546. Booked the week before listing photos, the garage shows as usable space again.
HOA garages: load from inside
Orangecrest, Mission Grove, Eastvale, Temescal Valley, Menifee, Murrieta and Beaumont all have master-planned tracts with HOAs, and HOAs tend to dislike piles on driveways and curbs. The City of Riverside's own bulky rule (out no more than 24 hours before, at the curb by 5:30 am) is often stricter in practice once CC&Rs are layered on top.
A loaded-from-the-garage cleanout avoids the issue: the truck backs up, the crew works from inside the garage, and the driveway is clear when they leave. Gated communities like Canyon Lake and parts of Temescal Valley just need gate access arranged in advance.
What a garage often hides
- Paint: accepted. A 1-gallon can is $30, a 5-gallon bucket $52.
- Pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, solvents: household hazardous waste. Not standard; ask case by case, or use Riverside County's HHW collection.
- Propane tanks: a 20 lb tank is $33.
- Electronics: the box of old cables and the tube TV, which the City's bulky pickup refuses. A box of electronics is $77.
- Tires: excluded from City bulky pickup; $22 each or $87 for a set of four.
Pull hazardous items to one side before the crew arrives, so they can be dealt with separately rather than holding up the load.
Timing: beat the heat
Inland valley garages from June through September are ovens by early afternoon, especially west-facing ones with the door closed. Book a morning window; crews start at 8am, seven days a week. Fall is the easiest season for garage work, and late December brings a wave of post-holiday clear-outs. If you commute on the 91 or the 15, an evening window works too, since crews run until midnight. Same-day is available when you book by 4 PM. Frequently asked questions
How much does a garage cleanout cost in Riverside?
By truck share: $241 for a quarter truck, $338 for three-eighths, $431 for half, $587 for three-quarters and $732 for a full truck. Heavy items like a garage fridge can be added at flat prices. Photos set the tier before you book.
Can you load from inside the garage so nothing sits on the curb?
Yes. Crews work from inside the garage and load straight to the truck, which suits HOA communities. The driveway is clear when they leave. Gated communities just need entry arranged.
Do you take paint from the garage?
Yes. A 1-gallon can is $30 and a 5-gallon bucket is $52. Other hazardous materials, such as pool chemicals and motor oil, are case by case. Ask before booking.
Can I use the City's bulky pickup for a garage cleanout?
For part of it. The City of Riverside allows two appointments a year, five items each, and excludes electronics, refrigerant appliances, tires and construction debris. A full garage usually exceeds that.
What is the best time of day for a garage job in summer?
Morning. Inland valley garages get very hot by afternoon from June through September. Late evening after the heat breaks is the other good option.
