The short answer
Hot tub removal is a flat price: $390 for a standard hot tub or spa and $501 for a large 6–8 person model, including the crew, the haul and disposal. You need to have the power disconnected by an electrician and the tub drained before pickup. Municipal programs will not help: Moreno Valley's bulky pickup explicitly excludes spas and hot tubs, and the City of Riverside's five-item curbside appointments are not built for something this size.
Why hot tubs are a special job
A hot tub is not just big; it is awkward. The shell is a wide, rigid acrylic or fiberglass tub sitting in a wood or composite cabinet, with pumps, heater and wiring underneath. Even empty, a typical spa is too heavy and too wide for a couple of neighbors to move.
In Inland Empire backyards, that runs into three common obstacles:
- Side-yard access. Tract homes in Orangecrest, Corona, Eastvale and Murrieta usually reach the backyard through a narrow side yard and a gate.
- Landscaping and hardscape. Pavers, planters, steps and patio covers often sit between the spa and the gate.
- Distance. Large-lot homes in Woodcrest, Norco and Temecula can have the spa far from the driveway.
If the tub will not fit through the gate in one piece, it may need to be cut down. Show the gate and the path in your photos so the quote reflects the real job.
Neighborhood notes: where spas sit
- Orangecrest and Mission Grove (92508): 1990s to 2000s tract homes, often with a spa set into a paver patio and a side gate on one side only. Check which side has the wider path.
- Eastvale, Menifee and French Valley: newer tracts with small backyards and block walls. The spa is usually close to the house, but the side yard may be shared with AC condensers and trash bins that need to be moved.
- Temecula and Murrieta: larger 1990s estate lots, sometimes with the spa on a lower terrace reached by steps. Photos of the steps matter.
- Canyon Lake: a gated city, so arrange gate access for the crew, and note any lakeside slope between the spa and the street.
- Woodcrest and Norco: long driveways and big lots, where the spa may sit beside an arena or barn rather than the house.
Who does what
| Step | Who |
|---|---|
| Turn off power at the breaker and disconnect the spa's electrical supply | You, through a qualified electrician |
| Drain the tub completely | You (a day or two ahead) |
| Remove the cover and any steps or surrounds you want gone | You or the crew, if included in the quote |
| Move the tub out of the yard, load and haul | The crew |
| Disposal | Included in the price |
The disconnect is the one thing that cannot be skipped. A spa is wired to a dedicated circuit; nobody should be handling it while that circuit is live. Drain early: a full spa takes time to empty, and a damp cabinet is heavier and more likely to come apart.
Flat prices for backyard wellness and pool items
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Above-Ground Pool (Frame + Liner) | $145 |
| Cold Plunge Tub | $271 |
| Sauna (1-2 Person / Barrel / Infrared) | $293 |
| Hot Tub / Spa | $390 |
| Hot Tub / Spa — 6-8 Person | $501 |
| Patio Table | $89 |
| Outdoor Lounge Chair | $61 |
| Patio Umbrella + Base | $53 |
A backyard reset, a standard spa plus a patio table and two lounge chairs: $390 + $89 + $61 + $61 = $601. A large spa and an above-ground pool from a Menifee yard: $501 + $145 = $646.
After the tub: steps, decking and the pad
The spa is often only part of what comes out. Wooden spa steps and surrounds can go with it; if the spa sat on a wood deck being torn out, the boards are priced as lumber or wood scrap at $41 per bundle. A cracked concrete pad broken up by a contractor is concrete or masonry debris, $219 per quarter truck. A Corona backyard where the spa, three bundles of deck boards and the old patio umbrella all go: $390 + $41 + $41 + $41 + $53 = $566. Chemicals left in the equipment bay, such as chlorine and pH treatments, are household hazardous waste; ask case by case, or take them to Riverside County's HHW collection.
Can I haul it myself?
You can, if you have a trailer, enough people and somewhere to take it. Riverside County landfills charge a flat $43.20 for a pickup with a trailer up to four feet high, and heavier or hard-to-handle loads are priced by weight ($70.26 a ton for hard-to-handle). Uncovered loads pay $25 extra.
The gate fee is the small part. Breaking a spa down, getting the shell through a side gate, and lifting it onto a trailer is heavy, sharp work, and the cabinet often comes apart unevenly after years of sun. For most households, a flat price is the more sensible route.
When people remove hot tubs here
Most hot tub removals follow a house sale, a backyard remodel, or a spa that quit after one too many summers. In the inland valleys, summer heat is hard on covers and cabinets, and a spa that sat unused through a hot season often needs more repair than it is worth.
If you are selling, remove it before listing photos. If you are remodeling, coordinate with the contractor so the spa is gone before the pavers are torn up. Either way, mornings are the best time for backyard jobs from June through September.
Getting a price
Take three photos: the tub itself, the path from the tub to the street, and the side gate with something for scale. Upload them on the instant quote page. The price is fixed before booking and only changes if you approve. Vetted, insured local haulers, seven days a week from 8am to midnight, with same-day pickup when you book by 4 PM.
Frequently asked questions
How much does hot tub removal cost in Riverside?
$390 for a standard hot tub or spa and $501 for a 6–8 person model, including haul-away and disposal. There is no stairs fee if the spa sits on a terrace. The price is shown before booking.
Will Moreno Valley's bulky pickup take a hot tub?
No. Moreno Valley's Waste Management bulky program explicitly excludes spas and hot tubs. It also excludes anything one person cannot safely lift. Other IE city programs are curbside and not built for spas either.
Do I need to disconnect the power?
Yes. Have a qualified electrician disconnect the spa's electrical supply before pickup, and drain the tub. Drain a day or two ahead so the cabinet has time to dry.
What if the hot tub will not fit through my side gate?
It may need to be cut down. Include photos of the gate and the path so the quote reflects the job. A tape measure in the photo helps.
Can you remove a sauna or cold plunge too?
Yes. A 1–2 person sauna is $293 and a cold plunge tub is $271. Together they are $293 + $271 = $564. They can go in the same visit as the spa.
